Local Field School has spent the summer retrofitting a small sailboat into a community sauna.
The original purpose of the sailboat was to sail from the small village of Mayo, Yukon, down the Yukon River to the Bering Sea, and then across the North Atlantic Ocean to England.
The sailboat will become a community sauna with Local Field School artists leading project and construction. We view community-building and the promotion of local well-being as the most effective intervention of the monument to the Gold Rush we live in, and believe that bringing people together, in a celebratory and safe manner, in a sauna built in a boat with larger-than-life aspirations, prepares us for another long winter together.
